Healthcare

In the Netherlands turnover from activities in the healthcare sector grew by more than 30%. EBIT also increased. In 2010 we combined all our service activities in the healthcare sector into one business activity. The companies Assist, Hago Zorg and EMC Artsen en Verpleegkundigen form part of this.

Hago Zorg grew both organically and through joint ventures. Improvements in its management, in its regional structure and in the control of joint ventures saw its EBIT rise. A revamped service concept designed around hygiene and hospitality provides a sound basis for the further development of the company’s quality of service.

Assist continued its strong performance, posting growth of over 50% in 2010. This increase can be attributed almost entirely to the activities of Assist Zorg in Huis. Assist Zorg Facilities consolidated its operations and made improvements to the management of business processes. As a result demand management at large facilities companies was improved. Assist Zorgondersteuning continued its impressive growth, partly thanks to its collaboration with the Maasstad Hospital. The development of EBIT kept pace with that of turnover. In 2010 Assist managed to position itself distinctly in the healthcare sector and further expanded its network of clients. This is creating possibilities for new forms of service. Enhancing the management of joint ventures should bring about further improvements in results.

EMC Artsen en Verpleegkundigen achieved growth of almost 6%, against the development of the market (-10%) – an extraordinary performance, especially given that EMC is increasingly having to contend with an ever-tighter situation on the labour market. Cutbacks at clients and incidental expenses saw its EBIT drop compared with 2009 .

We developed our position in the Belgian healthcare sector primarily through interim personnel and home care via service vouchers. Growth was achieved by means of participations by Assist Healthcare People in Reflex Interim and by Assist at Home in Makkie, amongst others. In 2010 Assist’s internal organization was developed further and we made substantial investments in expanding the network of clients.
