All activities contributed to this increase in turnover. More than half of the growth can be attributed to the healthcare activities in the Netherlands and Belgium. Facility Services Netherlands also made a substantial contribution to this rise in turnover. The growth of Facility Services International is just above the level of inflation, and this is also the case for our Products & Systems activities. Lastly, Personnel Services recovered strongly thanks to the improving market.
Improving economy helps with recovery and presents challenges on the labour market
Vebego’s Personnel Services activity, which includes payroll and temporary employment services, still found itself under pressure last year, but this year it saw its turnover rise by 10%. Ronald Goedmakers, Chairman of Vebego’s Board of Directors: ‘Within Personnel Services our companies are benefiting from the economic recovery. This is making the challenges on the labour market highly relevant once again. In Germany, for example, we are already having to contend with a shortage of personnel that is inhibiting our growth.’
Fierce competition in Facility Services activity ensures innovation
Competition in the area of Facility Services remains fierce, resulting in persistent price pressure and pressure of work. With turnover growth of more than 10% in the Netherlands, generally speaking the companies there were able to stand up to this well. Goedmakers: ‘It is clear that we have reached the limits of the current supply model as far as maximum efficiency and productivity are concerned. Coming up with new concepts is therefore important.’
Turnover in the other countries remained at the previous year’s level. This can be attributed primarily to the disappointing results achieved at one of our companies in France. ‘Measures have now been taken and we are seeing signs of recovery. The other companies performed well on the whole,’ reports Goedmakers.
More scope for entrepreneurship in healthcare
With growth in turnover of 30%, Healthcare is the fastest growing activity within Vebego. Goedmakers explains: ‘It is precisely because of the challenges faced by healthcare institutions that there is more scope for entrepreneurship. The healthcare sector will become even more important for Vebego over the coming years.’
Faith in the future despite result that is lower than expected The result from ordinary business operations increased by 19% to € 27 million. Despite the strong growth in turnover this figure is lower than expected. Ronald Goedmakers: ‘I have faith in the future and continuity of Vebego. Since the recession we have had to come a long way as far as our result is concerned. Now too we need to shift our gaze from the short term to the long term. There are many challenges facing society that we are now preparing for.’
